LE CENTER – The 70-year-old woman accused of robbing a bank in Elysian last December is expected to be in court this afternoon for a restitution hearing. Sandra Bathke duped her landlord’s son to drive her from her Janesville apartment to the bank to withdraw money to pay her rent. Instead she told a teller she wanted money and had a gun.
Police recovered a bag from the getaway car with $3,700 in cash, a small hammer, a pair of rubber gloves and a 2011 Elysian bank calendar.
But Can She Pay?
While the court may order Sandra Bathke to pay restitution in the bank robbery case, collecting on it may be a whole other story.
Court records show Bathke has yet to pay anything on over $1,000 is restitution in a 2007 case in Mankato where she bounced a check on a van purchased from the Minnesota Valley Action County.
It was first sent to collections in October 2008.
