MANKATO – While potential plea agreements have been discussed, the attorney for Aaron Whiteaker says they are ready to proceed to trial. Whiteaker was in court Monday morning in Mankato for a pre-trial hearing.
Whiteaker's attorney told the judge there are been plea discussions, but "nothing to fruition at this point."
Whiteaker was behind the wheel of a car that struck 20-year-old Thanh Tri Vu in a Mankato church parking lot in September 2010. Vu died several days after the accident.
Dozens of witnesses are expected to be called.
In a civil action against Whiteaker, he argues Vu was trying to assault him as he fled the parking lot, calling it a “pure accident.”
Whiteaker remains in custody on $50,000 conditional bond.
