MANKATO – The boyfriend of an 18-year-old girl killed in a fatal alcohol-related car crash last March will be going to trial for allegedly providing her with the alcohol at a party.
19-year-old Cody Oldenborg of Lake Crystal was in court with his attorney Tuesday where a four-day jury trial was set for June 14-17 in Blue Earth County District Court.
Oldenborg was 18-year-old when he was charged last October with a felony for providing alcohol to an underage person when it caused that person’s death.
Oldenborg and 18-year-old Lexi Hagen were together at an all-night party at the home of another teen in rural Lake Crystal the evening of March 20 through the morning of March 21st.
Authorities say Hagen and Oldenborg left the party around 6 a.m. and drove to Oldenborg’s home. About an hour later, Hagen drove from home and crashed her car on County Road 90.
A State Patrol investigation said her car went into a ditch, hit a field approach and flew 111 feet through the air. Her blood-alcohol level was .175
Hagen would die seven days later in a coma from severe head trauma.
