Judge Finds Nibbe Competent To Stand Trial For Murder

MANKATO -- A judge has found Jennifer Lee Nibbe is competent to stand trial for the murder of her husband last August.

In the order, Judge Kurt Johnson also denied a defense request for further neurological testing.

During a hearing in January, Nibbe's attorney questioned the results of the court appointed examiner's competency report.

In that report, Dr. Jeffrey Haun concluded that "Ms. Nibbe presently possesses sufficient ability to rationally consult with counsel, to understand the proceedings, and to participate in her defense."

The defense argued for additional testing to rule out any medical reason for her memory loss.

Prosecutors are expeted to call a grand jury to consider First Degree Murder Charges against Nibbe.

A previous grand jury date was delayed by the competency exam.
