City Council Approves Asking State For Civic Center Funds...Again

MANKATO – The Mankato City Council approved a resolution to once again request funding from the state for a long-planned $30 million dollar expansion of the civic center.

The bonding request had been included by legislators in the past, only to be line-item veto victim by Governor Pawlenty.

A big part of any expansion of the downtown civic center would be the purchase of the adjacent US Bank building and property.

City Manager Pat Hentges told the council last night that preliminary discussions have started with US Bank about buying the property.

Hentges says US Bank would stay downtown, possibly moving into the HECO building.
