Public Safety Citizen's Academy

Apply to participate in Mankato's public safety Citizens Academy, an eight-week course that allows community members to interact with staff and get an insider’s look at how the department contributes to the area’s quality of life. The course is held Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., September 11 through October 30 at the public safety center, 710 South Front Street.
Participants gain hands-on experience in a variety of public safety activities:
  • crime scene investigations
  • confined space rescue
  • cutting a car apart
  • evidence processing
  • extinguishing fires
  • rappeling from a tower
  • firearms
  • searching for a fire victim
Applications will be accepted through 6 p.m., Friday, August 15 and are available online, or at the public safety center between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. See application instructions.
