STORY OF ORIGIN (Operation Minnesota Nice)
“In the early part of 2004, founder Denise Jorgensen had a friend whose son was deployed to Baghdad Iraq.  He was serving with the First Cavalry out of Fort Hood, Texas.  During his tour, his family took turns sending packages of small reminders of home and simple necessities he might need.  He shared these things with others because they got very little from home.  As a result, Denise asked for names of other military personnel that she could adopt,” explained Jody Lange.  This led to forming Operation Minnesota Nice, which now has 43 units across Minnesota and more than 14,716 soldiers adopted.  A total of 707,761 pounds of care packages since 2004 have been sent
