MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Most Minnesota farmers are expected to harvest a decent crop this year despite the twin challenges of a cold, wet spring and an arid August. The Star Tribune reports the corn harvest could be a winner on par with last year's, though results will vary. That's particularly true in parts of southeastern Minnesota that never fully recovered from snow in May that complicated planting.
BURNSVILLE, Minn. (AP) — A shooting outside a bar in Burnsville has left one man dead. Police say it happened around 2 a.m. yesterday at Nina's Grill after an argument in the parking lot escalated into a shooting around closing time. The victim's name has not been released.
JACKSON, Minn. (AP) — A mother and her adult daughter from Jackson have died in a crash in southwestern Minnesota. The State Patrol identifies them as 64-year-old Norma Kanuch and 85-year-old Donna Kanuch. The patrol says Norma Kanuch was the driver of a car that was eastbound on Jackson County Road 4 when it collided with a semi that was northbound on U.S. Highway 71, south of Jackson. It happened around 11 a.m. Friday. The semi driver was taken to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (AP) — Organizers say a Detroit Lakes area ski hill should be back in business by winter 2014 — 10 years after it closed. The Detroit Mountain Recreation Area has already broken ground on a new chalet, and the group is just $500,000 shy of its fundraising goal to pay for the $7.5 million project.
