BURNSVILLE, Minn. (AP) — Burnsville police say a man is custody after he allegedly took two gas station employees hostage during an attempted robbery. Police say the man was armed with a shotgun and fired one shot into the ceiling Saturday evening. KSTP-TV reports the two employees were not hurt. The standoff began at the Holiday station store near Highway 13 and Nicollet Avenue around 6 p.m. Saturday. The standoff ended without bloodshed.
ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) — Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner says the investigation remains open into the slaying of Cold Spring Police Officer Tom Decker because two significant questions remain unanswered. The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension last month said there would have been enough evidence to arrest Eric Thomes if the 31-year-old had not killed himself first. But in an interview with The St. Cloud Times, Sanner says investigators still haven't determined a motive for the officer's killing last November.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A 19-year-old Minneapolis woman has died after falling out of a sixth-floor window at a University of Minnesota dormitory. University police responded to Yudof Hall on the Minneapolis campus just after 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Police said the woman was trying to move from the window to a rooftop area when she fell.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minneapolis homeowners who lost trees in the severe storm June 21st can buy low-cost replacements starting today while supplies last. The city is offering about 500 trees for $25. They go on sale at 8 a.m. through September 20th.
