Don't Let Arthiritis Stop You From Gardening
MANKATO (TEC News), August 9 – Arthritis can be a barrier for many as they get older and hindering some from doing things they love to do. The Senior Linkage Line and Minnesota Board on Aging are encouraging those who love to garden, to continue the activity as it helps with joints. Cheryl Weston with Region 9 Development and Aging Agency says to make sure to talk to a physician:
Weston 8-9 “As you get started as with any activity, you always wanna talk to your doctor. So don’t just decide that you’re going to dive into gardening and you haven’t done it for five or ten years. Do talk to your doctor or your physical therapist and see if there are any precautions you should take.” :18 sec.
Weston also encouraged that when you start, make sure you accommodate for yourself. Arrange your garden to suit your needs, move the correct way as not to put too much stress on certain joints, and choose the right products (i.e. tools and even what you’re planting).
