MANKATO (TEC News) - Real-time information about road emergencies will be available to motorists starting mid-July. MnDOT crews will install permanent electronic message boards on Highways 14 and 169 in Mankato starting June 24. The boards will only be used for events and emergencies that impact traffic. Officials that pushed for this project were the South Central Toward Zero Deaths steering committee, which includes staff from MnDOT, State Patrol, Public Safety and Emergency Services. Examples of traffic conditions ahead that warrant the use of the signs include crashes, closures, construction, hazardous conditions and amber alerts.
