MANKATO (TEC News) - Mankato's Public Safety Center will host the Mankato Area Refugee Consortium Event on Wednesday, July 17.
The event, which brings together businesses, non-profit organizations, and local immigrant refugees, will focus on employment.
Representatives from the Mankato business sector are encouraged to attend, said Eric Meyer, co-chairperson of the Refugee Consortium Planning Committee. Successful business leaders from the Mankato area will talk about "really wonderful and positive experiences" with refuges.
There will be a question-and-answer portion where those who attend can ask a panel composed of business leaders and refugees. Panelist will also discuss hiring and "how to be supportive in the diverse workforce."
In addition to discussing employment in the Mankato area, the consortium event gives the longstanding Mankato community the opportunity to communicate with the immigrant community, said Meyer: Meyer 2 "do so" :30
The communication between the two communities allows for new strengths and skills to be developed that benefit the Mankato community as a whole, said Meyer.
Those who are interested in attending, or would like more information, should contact Yvonne Zgraggen from the Minnesota Council of Churches at firstname.lastname@example.org.
