MANKATO - (TEC News) - Safety is a top priority for faculty and staff of the Mankato Public School District as well as in the state of Minnesota. Superintendent Sheri Allen said they are continuously working throughout the year to ensure that every student is accounted for and safe when they walk in the doors each day. Two police liaisons and video cameras are in each school in the district. In addition to the state mandated fire drills, lock downs, and tornado drills, the Mankato's schools created six other drills. District 77 even established a text service called ShoutPoint to alert parents of any emergency that may go on. Allen comments about the tragic events in the Connecticut shooting and that the school sends their support. She said that student safety is a continuous effort every year.
