ST. PAUL September 18, 2012 (KMKO) – The Minnesota Court of Appeals has ruled against AMPI in New Ulm for a fire that destroyed their butter plant in December 2004.AMPI challenged the district court’s summary judgment in favor of an air compressor company believed by AMPI to start the fire.
AMPI alleged the company had to shut down the main air compressor because of oil leak and the explosion was caused by a smaller, back-up compressor that ran the plant for several minutes while maintenance filled the main compressor up with oil.
It was determined that the back-up compressor exploded and that the first compressor’s oil leak contributed to the fire, it didn’t cause it.
