MANKATO-September 6, 2012-(KMKO)-Roads and intersections are busier now that school is underway and the Mankato Department of Public Safety is reminding drivers to be aware of pedestrians crossing the street. Crossing guards are located at many intersections in the area, especially in the mornings and late afternoons.  Drivers must stop for pedestrians even if there are no traffic signals, regardless of whether or not that person is in a marked crosswalk.  It's illegal to drive around another vehicle stopped for a pedestrian and to drive through while a guard displays a stop signal and directs children across the street.
