Mankato (KMKO)-With the hotter than usual temperatures in the area, water usage has been at record highs in Mankato. The common number is around 5 million gallons a day, but this year the city has set a record of around 9 million gallons. Having your lawn looking like the golf course green may look nice, but it can cause high usage of water. Mankato public works officials are asking homeowners to limit it, because the city has seen record high water rates this summer. It's advised to water lawns before 10:00 am and after 5:00 pm.
