Severe Storms Leaves Flooding

Mankato (KMKO)-It was a rainy evening in southern Minnesota, but the Mankato area escaped the brunt of the storm.  Rainfall totals ranged from a half inch in Mankato to close to an inch in the St. Peter area.  The real damage was to the east and north east, where streets and basements flooded.  Severe thunderstorms blew through Goodhue, Rice and southern Dakota counties.  Trees were downed, at least one barn was destroyed and flooding occurred across the region.  Rainfall totals ranged from 5 to 10 inches, causing flooding of streets and homes.  Highways 52 and 50 were closed for a time last night.  A semi was blown off Highway 52 near Pine Island.  Flood warnings remain in effect for the Cannon River and its tributaries in Goodhue, Rice and southern Dakota counties until 1:30 this afternoon.
