Washington, D.C. (KMKO)-Nicollet and Waseca Counties will lose their Farm Service Offices this summer. The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced yesterday that five offices in Minnesota will be closed as part of a nationwide consolidation. USDA farm service offices are helpful to farmers who want to visit with the Agriculture Department and find out more about its many farm, environmental and loan programs. In January, Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced plans to close and consolidate 131 FSA offices, as well as 128 other USDA offices, labs or facilities. The goal was to close only offices that were located within 20 miles of another office and had two or fewer employees.
