MANKATO (TEC News) -- Mankato police today released more details on the Saturday night armed robbery of two pizza joint employees.
 
21-year-old John Fletcher and 19-year-old Matthew Fryer are both in custody as they await formal charges in Blue Earth County District Court.
 
Both men do not have to appear before a judge until noon Tuesday at the latest.
 
According the Mankato Department of Public Safety Commander Amy Vokal, an employee of Gary's Pizza was standing behind the business when two men approached him with a handgun and demanded money.
 
The altercation became physical, and a vehicle window was broken out before the suspects fled the area without any money.
 
Vokal says other officers were still investigation the 8:15 p.m. incident at Gary's Pizza when they received a call around 8:45 p.m. after a delivery person for Topper's Pizza was robbed by two men.
 
According to Vokal, the victim was leaving a building in the 100 block of North 4th Street after making a delivery when he was approached by two men demanding money.
 
The men fled the scene with a small amount of cash, according to Vokal.
 
Vokal say another officer was on the way to investigate the second incident, when he came across a "suspicious" vehicle at an intersection near the robbery.
 
Police say as the pickup truck sped away from an intersection as the squad car approach. The officer followed the truck, leading to a short vehicle pursuit that ended with the truck crashing into an unoccupied, parked vehicle.
 
Fletcher fled the vehicle and was captured after a short foot chase.
 
Fletcher "ran from one of our fastest officers," said Vokal.
 
Police say both robberies appear to have been random and not planned. Vokal says he doesn't appear they called in the delivery to set up the second victim.
 
Vokal couldn't comment on if the handgun, which has been called a "replica", was recovered by police.
