Missouri Woman Charge For Baby's Death Ten Years Ago Near Henderson
GAYLORD (TEC News) -- A Missouri woman has been charged in Sibley County with the death of her newborn child in April 2001.
A criminal complaint alleges 29-year-old Amy Ann Romero abandoned her newborn daughter in the woods north of Henderson shortly after giving birth.
A Sibley County grand jury handed down the indictment earlier this month, leading to her arrest last Friday.
According to the Sibley County Attorney's Office, Romero was indicted by a Sibley County Grand Jury on Thurday, January 19th.
During her court appearance yesterday, Romero was informed of the Grand Jury indictment on charges of First Degree Murder, Second Degree Murder, Third Degree Murder, Second Degree Manslaughter and Child Neglect and Child Endangerment.
In a written statement, Sibley County Attorney David Schauer said the allegations are that Romero gave birth to the child in the early morning hours of April 28, 2001 and then abandoned the child in the woods in the late afternoon hours.
In the statement, Schauer said he would "let the judicial process function" and would "not discuss the case facts int he media."
The case was jointly investigated by the Sibley County Sheriff's Department and the Cameron Missouri Police Department.
