MANKATO (TEC News) -- Former state legislator Allen Quist is expected to enter the race for 1st District Congress later this week. The Republican has scheduled a series of stops on Thursday and Friday across the district starting at 8 a.m. on Thursday in Winona.
He'll begin Friday in Mankato at Happy Chef at 9 a.m., followed by stops in New Ulm, Fairmont and Worthington.
Quist has only publicly said the stops will be to announce his decision regarding the 1st District race.
However Minnesota Public Radio News has reported on a letter sent by Quist to GOP activists that announces his plans to become a candidate.
Quist entering the race would set up a battle for the Republican endorsement as State Senator Mike Parry of Waseca has already entered the race.
The Republican nominee would face incumbent Tim Walz (D-Mankato) next November.
Quist sought the Republican endorsement in 2010, but lost to Randy Demmer. He previously ran for Minnesota Governor in 1994 and 1998.
