MANKATO (TEC News) – A Mankato police officer had to fight for her gun during an altercation aboard the city’s “Late Night Express” bus.
Officer Jessica Ellis was struggling to hand cuff a drunk female and remove her from the bus on October 2nd when another person came up from behind and grabbed the grip of her pistol.
Tynan William Hartmann-Green, 23, of New Prague, was trying to pull the gun away from Ellis, when she grabbed the gun and place him under arrest.
According to court documents, Hartmann-Green later told police he was “trying to get her jacket.” It wasn’t clear if he meant the jacket of the officer of the girl being arrests.
Hartmann-Green faces a felony charge of Disarming a Peace Officer and a gross misdemeanor charge of Obstruction of the Legal Process-Interfere with a Peace Officer.
The "Late Night Express" runs every night from midnight until 3 a.m. during the Minnesota State University, Mankato academic school year. The city started the $1 shuttles as a means to provide a safe ride out of Mankato's downtown entertainment district, according to the city's website.
The service gave 11,249 rides in 2010.
