Autopsy Shows Mankato Hotel Pool Death Was A Drowning

MANKATO (TEC News) – An autopsy shows the Pelican Rapids man who was found floating in a Mankato hotel pool in July died from accidental drowning.

71-year-old Dewayne George Ludwig was found underwater in the pool at Fairfield Inn on July 17th. CPR was being performed on Ludwig when first responders arrived at the hotel.

EMS attempts to revive Ludwig failed and he was pronounced dead at the hotel.

At the time, Mankato police investigators called it a possible drowning, saying an autopsy was needed to rule out natural causes.

Foul play was never suspected and there were no signs of trauma, according to the Mankato Department of Public Safety.

Toxicology showed signs of alcohol consumption, but investigators did not say if that contributed to the drowning.
