Police Target Teen Drivers With Operation Home Safe



MANKATO -- Earlier this spring, area law enforcement went into the schools to talk about the importance of wearing your seat belt.

This weekend the message went from education to enforcement.

As part of the "Operation Home Safe" program, Mankato police handed out 21 seat belt citations. Lake Crystal Police issued six seat belt citations

Of the 95 traffice fatalities int he 16-to19 year-old age group, only 37 percent were wearing their seatbelt.

"Education and enforcement are important components to Operation Home Safe," said Adam Gray, officer with the Mankato Department of Public Safety. "We're committed to education and enforcement because it saves lives."

Of 95 traffic fatalities in the 16 to 19 year-old age group, only 37 percent were wearing their seat belt.

In Mankato there was also one arrest for DUI and one for aiding and abetting DUI.
