READ EMAIL -- Man Banned From Schools For Inappropriate Videotaping

MANKATO (KMKO) -- A 58-year-old Waseca County man has been banned from attending any future Mankato Public School functions after he was caught inappropriately videotaping a player at a recent Mankato West girls basketball game.

An email was sent out Thursday to parents and guardians of the district to inform them of the incident during the Mankato West vs Rochester Mayo game on Friday, February 17th.

In the letter we obtained sent out to Mankato East parents by Principal Shane Baier, a guest of one of the West players approached Mankato West Activities Director Ken Essay to report that an unfamiliar person was videotaping athletes using "suspicious filming and zooming techniques."

A Mankato police report for the incident indicates the man was filming a particular West player.

According to the school, Essay confirmed the information and reported it the Mankato police, gave the man a formal trespass notice from the school district. The email says should the man return to any function, police will be called.

School staff were allowed by the man to view the videotape and additional prep games and other legal, but disturbing images were witnessed.

In the email, Baier wrote that staff are "committed to keeping our students and school community safe." He also asked for a "continued partnership" in reporting suspicious behavior.
