No Additional Jail Time Likely For Kirlin

MANKATO – Sentencing will take place in July for a Mankato man who pleaded guilty today to having sexual contact with a 15 year-old boy and taking a pornographic photo.

Four other counts were dropped this afternoon against 47-year-old James Kirlin.

On the stand Kirlin admitted to touching the boy, but denied intercourse.

He also said he threw away the photo. “When things fell apart between us I got rid of them,” said Kirlin.

Three of the more serious charges that were dropped involved the alleged mental impairment of the victim.

Kirlin could face a year in jail, but it’s likely any jail time would be stayed in lieu of probation.

He is free on bond and Judge Krista Jass determined GPS monitoring for Kirlin was no longer needed.

Prosecutor Mike Hanson say the mother of the victim supported the plea agreement.
